As we now know that IGCSE is a course that enables students to co-create the curriculum, it is important that we know our true interests and career path before we proceed to exploit our options. In this IGCSE Part 4 Blog, we’re going to help you run down your likes and dislikes to discover your true strengths. Our self-exploration guideline will help you get wind of your superior skills, so you can choose your IGCSE courses based on what you’re already excelling to leverage your competence. Don’t worry if you feel like you’re not good at anything, you’re not alone. A lot of times we don’t realise that we’ve got many valuable potentials but we just haven’t discovered them yet. Since you’re reading this article, we’re sure you’ll have an idea of where to start looking for your interests by the time you finish reading.

If you’re a bit lost in your own roads, let’s get you back on track and strike into it 😉. Here’s a guideline to discovering your unexposed power!

  1. Take a test

Taking a test is probably the easiest way to learn about yourself. We suggest the “old but gold” all-time famous 16 Personalities Test created by MBTI®. The test can help you discover your strengths, weaknesses, and potential careers based on your personality. The test is not a random quiz that you can find on the internet but it’s actually a study of modern psychological and social research. Upon the completion of the test, you’ll be categorised among the 16 personality types which belong to one of the 4 groups: 1. Analysts 2. Diplomats 3. Sentinels and 4. Explorers. Your characteristics such as weak and strong points, career choices, relationships and friendships will be suggested based upon the scientific research that pillars the personality test.

You’d be surprised by the simplicity of the questions that are asked in the personality test i.e. How much do you enjoy vibrant social events with lots of people? How often do you think about what you should’ve said in a conversation long after it has taken place? Do you have a careful and methodical approach to life? Although these questions seem rudimentary, however, the results that you get are surprisingly accurate and meaningful.

Not only that it’s enjoyable to be reading about yourself from a third-party perspective, but it can give you insights that you might not have thought of before. This can be an initial guideline to knowing yourself, and it’s also free! So go ahead and discover who you actually are! https://www.16personalities.com/

  1. Notice where your energy comes from

People feel the most energetic when they’re exercising their strengths. From now on, keep track of the activities that make you feel invigorated and pumped up because they’re likely to involve your inner capabilities. You can begin by paying attention to the time that you stand out from the crowd. What sort of things do you find enjoyable while achieving impressive results? Are there any subjects, hobbies, or activities that you grasp fairly easily and quickly than others? If so, keep jotting them down and you can work your way from there.

Knowing the area that you thrive in can help you progress better when studying IGCSE. You’d definitely find your IGCSE courses much more fun if you engage in the subjects that you appreciate. So, don’t overlook the early steps of exploring yourself if you don’t want to regret, or perhaps struggle later on.

  1. Get up and try

There’s nothing more effective than coming out of your comfort zone and trying miscellaneous things. Engaging in practical activities will give you tangible and valuable experience to quest for your dominant skills. Keep in mind that it’s going to require quite an effort but because it’s a process of finding your inner self so it can’t be that simple and straightforward, right? Here are a few things that you can get yourself involved:

  • Acquire digital skills such as Facebook Ads, Google Ads, SEO, and graphic designing by taking accredited e-learning courses.
  • Start an online blog about something you’re passionate about. It can be a travel blog, food blog, makeup blog, or even try getting a freelance writing job.
  • Learn to manage people by volunteering in a non-profit organisation. Assess your own management skills by observing how well you manage people, time, and resources. Are you brave enough to challenge yourself to work your way up to the management position?
  • Try learning arts whether it be playing an instrument, singing, dancing, painting, designing, or fashion.
  • Develop public speaking skills by starting a YouTube channel or participating in a speech contest.

There are actually many more activities that you can partake, the idea is to exercise your capabilities and assess the areas that you’re best interested in. We guarantee that all the effort that you put in to discover yourself won’t go to waste.

  1. How would your friends describe you?

After undergoing self-exploration procedures, it’s time to seek for your friends family and teachers’ perception about yourself. Here are some questions you can ask them:
How would you describe me?
Which areas do you think I’m outstanding?
Which areas do you see me struggling?
What have I always been good at since I was a kid?

However, their answers will vary depending on their point of view and the context in which they see you. You shouldn’t solely depend on other people’s judgment but deem it as a piece of advice.

This self-exploration list could take time and effort to accomplish, but it’ll definitely be worth it to reflect on yourself and examine the unknown.
