What is IGCSE?
IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) is a globally recognized qualification for upper secondary education in the United Kingdom, with a certificate comparable to the 4th year of secondary education in Thailand. IGCSE exam is conducted in English and allows students to choose subjects according to their interests and strengths. Upon successful completion, students can progress to further education pathways such as AS, A-Level, or IB, which are required for university admission.
The IGCSE is comprised of two levels* of examination:
- Core: A standard test with fewer questions and a shorter duration. The grade range for the Core curriculum is limited to C, D, E, F, and G.
- Extended: A more detailed and academically intensive examination. The grade range for the Extended curriculum includes A*, A, B, C, D, and E.
Generally, the requirement may include the completion of five IGCSE subjects and three AS/A-Level subjects, with grades typically required to be above C. Kindly remember to review the updated requirements for each faculty and university to ensure the application process.
*Also in some subjects, the exam covers the complete ability range and there is no choice of Core and Extended syllabus. For these subjects, the full range of grades is available.
